Located in New York City, the Javits Center is one of the busiest convention centers in the United States. It is also a leader in sustainability, as it is home to a robust sustainability program which includes energy-efficient equipment and policies, a food waste and food & beverage program with emphasis on locally and sustainably sourced products, and a growing wildlife sanctuary on a nearly 7-acre state-of-the-art green roof that can absorb up to seven million gallons of storm water run-off annually while reducing heat gain throughout the building. As a result of all the Javits Center’s sustainable initiatives, the facility's annual energy consumption has been reduced by 26%!
Due to the commitment of the New York Governor’s office, the Javits Center is set to become even more sustainable in the near future with a dynamic project in conjunction with the New York Power Authority to install the largest rooftop solar array in New York City. Together, the leaders of both organizations — Gil Quiniones, President & CEO, New York Power Authority (NYPA) and Alan Steel, CEO, Javits Center — join together at The Nest Summit to discuss this monumental step towards greening New York City.
